Over pfSense

In 2004 werd pfSense gemaakt als een 1:1-fork van het populaire m0n0wall-project. Het is vrij gelijkwaardig, maar er zijn enkele verschillen. Vooral omdat pfSense is ontworpen om op pc's te worden geïnstalleerd in plaats van op embedded apparaten. Hierdoor biedt het meer flexibiliteit en geavanceerde opties.

Met een pfSense-firewall kun je al het internetverkeer van jouw VPS'en via de pfSense-firewall laten verlopen. De VPS'en zelf kun je dan afhankelijk van je use case zelfs onbereikbaar voor het publieke internet maken. Zo kun je niet zomaar meer aangevallen worden.

    Are you looking for more support for your pfSense or configuration? You can view our support docs, but there are other ways to find answers to any questions you have. Free support is offered on the forums, mailing list and IRC. Commercial assistance is available by BSD perimeter, the company that created pfSense. 

  • Do I have control over my own firewall rules?

    Yes, within the installed pfSense environment you have full freedom to create security rules. You can find a full manual on netgate.com. 

  • What are pfSense's most important functionalities?

    On your VPS, the firewall functionality is the most important. But pfSense can also serve as DHCP Server, State Table, Load Balancer, PPPoE server, DNS server, VPN and Network address translation.
