A 'private network' is a private layer 2 network between as many VPSs as you like. The private network is only available internally and cannot be reached through the public internet.
You order a private network through our website. Within a minute the new private network will be visible in your account. When selecting this private network in the control panel, you can then add extra VPS's which are active in your account.
The monthy costs of adding an additional VPS after the first two VPSs is the same as the price of the private network. For example, if you add four VPSs to a private network you'd pay three times the monthly price. There is no limit on the amount of VPS's you can add to private network.
- Every private network will add another network adapter on your VPS. This will not cause a reboot of your OS.
- You will need to configure private IP addresses before you can make use of the private network. You can use our guides on how to configure private network IP addresses for Linux and Windows.
- You can only use IP's from the specific private IP-ranges: 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12en 192.168.0.0/16. You can also check it's RFC.
- The private network has its own network interface and does not share the bandwith of the external network connection. Your private and public network interface each have a maximum of 1Gbit/s and with the bandwith extension this becomes 2.5Gbit/s.
- A private network cannot be handovered to another TransIP account, as is possible with a VPS or Big Storage-disk.
- A private network cannot be shared with another TransIP account. You can only connect VPSs from your own account.
- A private network cannot be shared with other services such as Kubernetes or OpenStack.
