    My mailbox is full

As long as your mailbox is full, it is not possible to receive new emails. When there is no disk space available to store the message, it cannot be saved anywhere and therefore will not appear in your mailbox.

In this case, the sender of the message will receive what’s called a ‘bounce message’, in which the mail server indicates that the message could not be delivered. As the intended recipient, you will not notice this, since there is no space available to receive the message.

Note: An undelivered message is not automatically resent. The sender will have to manually resend the email once there is space available again in the recipient’s mailbox.

It is therefore important to make sure your mailbox does not fill up completely. In this article, we explain how to check this and how to make sure you can receive emails again. You can delete messages, or you can increase the size of your mailbox to make room for new messages.

    Check your mailbox

You can check the status of your mailbox through Webmail or the control panel.

    Webmail

You can log in to your mailbox via the webmail by entering the corresponding email address and password. You will then see in the bottom left how full your mailbox is (displayed as a percentage).

    Control Panel

You can also check this by logging into your control panel. In the left menu, click on 'Email Hosting'. Then, under 'Products', click on your domain name.

In the overview, you will see how much space each mailbox is using below ‘Used space’.

    Delete emails

In Webmail, you can sort your messages by size by clicking the gear icon above your emails. On the right-hand side, click 'Size' to sort your emails by size. This makes it easy to see which emails are the largest and decide which ones to delete.

If you would like to save messages locally before deleting them from your mailbox, select the mail(s) and click ... More - > Download... - > Source (.eml). We also have guides for backing up your emails in Outlook, Thunderbird, or Mac Mail.

Once you’re ready to delete messages, simply select them and click the trash can icon (Delete) at the top.

Keep in mind that all folders in your mailbox count toward the total size, including the trash folder. So do not forget to empty your trash after deleting messages from your inbox.

Do you prefer to have more storage space in your mailbox? In the article I want to increase the size of my mailbox, we explain how to do that.
