With most domain extensions (such as .COM and .SHOP), a domain transfer is performed using an authorization code.

For domain names that end with .UK (such as .CO.UK, .ME.UK, .ORG.UK and .UK), a different transfer procedure is used. In order to transfer these domain names, you do not need an authorization code. Instead, the IPS-Tag of the .UK domain name needs to be changed to that of the new registrar.

In this article we will tell you all about how to transfer your .UK domain name.

Transferring a .UK domain name to TransIP

Step 1

To transfer a .UK domain name to TransIP, you will first need to request the transfer via our website. Visit our domain checker and enter your .UK domain name.

Now click on 'Transfer', followed by 'Next'.

Step 2

On the next page you can choose to add a web hosting package to your domain name. A web hosting package allows you to create your own website and add email addresses with the click of a button.

By default, the web hosting L package is selected. Click on 'Choose' to add this package or click 'Show all hosting options' to pick a different package. Click on 'To cart without web hosting' to transfer your .UK domain name without a web hosting package.

Step 3

You will now see an overview of your selected products. Click on 'Order' to request the transfer of your .UK domain name.

You can now find the domain name in the tab 'Domains & Hosting' inside your control panel. 

Step 4

If you select your domain name on the left hand side (don't check the box), you will see the transfer has been requested. 

In order to complete the transfer, you need to ask your current registrar to change the domain name's IPS-Tag to 'KEY-SYSTEMS-DE'.

The IPS-Tag states where the domain name is registered. Key Systems is our partner for domain registrations, which is why their name is listed in the IPS-Tag. Once your current registered has changed the domain name's IPS-Tag to ours, the transfer of your .UK domain name will automatically be completed.

Your .UK domain name will then be registered at TransIP and ready for use!

Transferring a .UK domain name to another registrar

To transfer your .UK domain name from TransIP to another registrar, you will first need to request the transfer at the new registrar. Next, inquire what the IPS-Tag of the new registrar is and forward the IPS-Tag to our support team.

We will then change the IPS-Tag of your .UK domain to that of the new registrar. Once the change has been processed the domain transfer will automatically complete.
