The registry has an additional requirement for a .de domain registration:
- The address in the registrant or administrative contact details has to be located within the European Union.
When registering a .de domain with an address outside of the European Union, we automatically replace this with a postal address in Germany to ensure that your domain complies with the rules. This is called the Trustee Service add-on and enables you to register the domain without having a trusted contact person in the European Union. The costs for using this Trustee Service add-on differ per domain extension and are drafted in a separate contract.
Disabling the Trustee Service
If you no longer require the Trustee Service you can cancel it easily. For an existing domain name simply change the registrant or contact details to an address in the European Unionin your control panel and click save. We will automatically check the requirements on local presence and notify you if the change is successful. For a new domain registration, we check the address location during the order process and notify you if the Trustee Service add-on is needed. You have the possibility to change the contact details during the order process by clicking on ‘’Edit WHOIS and nameservers’’.
