Changing your password in CentOS 7

The username of users on your CentOS 7 VPS can be easily changed using command-line via SSH, or the VPS console. There are three options, depending on which user you want to change the password for:

  • your own password:
    paaswd
  • the root password:
There are two options: the first option is to first switch to the root user and then change the password:
    su root
    passwd
or adjust the root password directly:
    sudo passwd

Have you lost your root password? Then consult this article to reset your root password.

  • the password of another user:
    sudo passwd user
Replace user with the actual username.
