MDA stands for Mail Delivery Agent (also known as Local Delivery Agent, LDA). It concerns software that provides the receiving (not sending) of email messages to your email box.

Our DirectAdmin, Plesk and cPanel VPSs come supplied with Dovecot as MDA (and MTA) by default.

The most commonly used MDAs are:

• Microsoft Exchange Server
• Dovecot (Linux)

Only Microsoft Exchange Server can be used for both sending and receiving email. In Linux, an MTA such as Exim or Postfix is ​​used for sending.
