My private network is (suddenly) very slow

If you use a private network, in most cases you will also use a VPS with pfSense as a firewall / router. Within pfSense, there are several options which, when enabled, can ensure that the traffic is not routed properly, or a very low upload takes place.

If you end up in such a situation, this can be remedied by disabling certain options in the network configuration of pfSense itself. This specifically concerns Disable hardware checksum offload & Disable hardware TCP segmentation offload.

In some cases, due to an update or restart, these options may be undesirably unchecked. In that case, you can enable these options under System > Advanced > Networking tab. Once enabled, problems with routing and speed should be corrected immediately.
