Your GDPR privacy rights at TransIP

As of the 25th of May 2018, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) applies.

This means that the same privacy legislation applies throughout the entire European Union. The GDPR strengthens the privacy rights of consumers and places greater responsability with companies, including TransIP.

In this article we explain which rights you have as a customer of TransIP under the GDPR.


Right of access

The right of access means that you as a customer of TransIP can view all the personal data we collect.

The personal data we collect consists of the following information:

  • Your username
  • Your name and address details
  • Your email address
  • Your payment details
  • An overview of the services you purchase from us
  • An overview of the cancellations that have been carried out
  • An overview of the services received and transferred by means of a Handover
  • The message history
  • An overview of responses to Knowledge Base articles
  • Your Feature Requests and the responses you have given to Feature Requests
  • Your domain names
  • Your WHOIS data
  • The DNS records that you have entered in your control panel for your domain names
  • The Nameservers which you have set up in your control panel
  • Your SSL Certificates
  • The metadata of your email and email forwards.

We require the above-mentioned personal data in order to provide you with all our services. If you wish to purchase services with TransIP, you agree that TransIP processes your data.

An overview of all your personal data can be found in your control panel. From here, go to your username in the top right corner and click on 'My Account'. On the right side of this page you can find the 'Download all your data' header. Click on 'Request data' in this header to request an overview of all your data at TransIP.

After approximately 15 minutes, the overview will be ready to download at the same location. Refresh the page to see if the overview is ready. The overview will be supplied in the .JSON format.

Take note that the personal data we collect can only be viewed via your control panel. You can only log in to this secured environment by using the login credentials you have chosen. This way we can guarantee that only you, as a authorized person, are able to view your overview of the personal data we collect.

For the same reason, you cannot invoke the right of access via an email message. This can only be done via the control panel.


Right to data portability

The right to data portability gives you the right to recieve a copy of the personal data we collect from you at all times. If you wish to transfer your services, you can share this copy with the other provider at will.

You can request the copy of your personal data in the .JSON format in your control panel. Your username and the time of creation of the copy are listed in the file name. You can view and download an overview of your personal data by using the steps under 'Right of access'.


Right to information

As a customer of TransIP you have the right to know what happens with the personal data you share with us. Please read our Privacy Policy for more information on how we use and store this data.

We also use cookies to understand how you use our website and which of our services you are interested in. The cookies we use are Functional, Analytical and Marketing cookies. You can read more about the cookies we use in our Cookie Policy.

If you have not yet accepted our cookies and visit our website, you will be prompted to accept all our cookies or to manage the Cookie Settings. In the Cookie Settings you have the option to indicate which cookies we track.

Our Cookie policy

Functional cookies are required to be able to provide you with our services. Therefore, the Functional cookies cannot be disabled. The Analytical and Marketing cookies can be turned on or off at will.

With Analytical Cookies we collect information on the use of our website and allows us to see which information you find useful or redundant.

With Marketing cookies we are able to measure the success of our advertisement campaigns and calculate accurate commissions for our affiliate partners. In addition, these cookies help us understand whether you are interested in one of our products so we can show you a cool offer while browsing.

Cookie settings

Please note: Once you have accepted the cookies via the cookie bar, you will not be able to change the Cookie Settings directly.

You can only change the cookie settings again once you have removed the cookies from your browser. The next time you visit our website you will be able to manage the Cookie Settings once more.


Right of rectification

The right of rectification allows you to change the personal data we collect from you at any time. You can always view your personal data in your control panel. If the data is no longer accurate, you can edit the data as you see fit.

I want to edit my personal data / payment details

In order to edit your personal data, log in to your control panel. Go to your username in the top right and click on 'My Account'.

Here you wil find an overview of your account and payment details. You can edit this information as you see fit, then click on 'Save' to save the changes.

I want to change the WHOIS data of my domain names

Log in to your control panel and head to the tab 'Domains & Hosting'. Next, check the box next to the domain name which you wish to view and edit the WHOIS data for. Click on 'Change contact details'.

Change contact details

On the next page you will see the WHOIS data of the domain name. This information can be edited free of charge for most domain extensions.

Some domain name registries charge costs for adjusting the data of the domain name registrant. If this is the case, you will be immediately notified when visiting the 'Change contact details' page.

WHOIS data is required for the registration of domain names. This data is included in international WHOIS databases. Depending on the domain name registry, all data, a part of the data or no data is shown in the WHOIS.

DNS and nameservers

You can change the DNS and nameservers of your domain names in your control panel. From here, head to the tab 'Domains & Hosting' and select the domain name on the left hand side (don't tick the box).

Scroll down to 'Advanced settings'. If 'Advanced settings' is not visible, click on 'Enable advanced settings' below 'Your domain settings'.

Under 'Advanced settings' you will find the DNS and Nameserver settings for your domain name. You can change these as you see fit.

Default domain settings

In your control panel you also have the option to view and adjust your default domain settings. This data is used by default for new domain registrations and transfers.

Inside your control panel, go to 'Domains & Hosting' and click the gear in the top right, followed by 'Default settings'.

Here you can change the default DNS, nameservers and WHOIS data used for new domain registrations and transfers.

Right of erasure of data

As a TransIP customer you have the right to delete your personal data. You also have the right to ‘erasure’, which at TransIP means the same as the deletion of your data. This removes your data directly from our databases.

Please note: The personal data we collect is required to provide you with all our services. If you invoke the right of erasure of data, this also means we can no longer offer you any services. This means that your account and all services and data included will be deleted.

If you no longer want us to collect your personal data and therefore want to invoke the right of erasure of data, please contact our support department. They will help you in deleting your data and with that, your services and account with TransIP. You can contact our support department by using the 'Contact' tab in the control panel or the button 'Contact us' at the bottom of this page.

Once your data has been deleted, we will also report this to each party with whom the data was shared. We will request them to delete the data as well.

The only data that is not deleted are invoices. We are legally obligated by the Dutch tax authority to save invoices for 7 years.


Right related to automated decision making including profiling

The GDPR also offers the right not to be subjected to automated individual decision making. However, it may occur that we make automated decisions based on personal data.

At TransIP this only happens when an invoice is not paid on time. We will then automatically send out warnings to the non-paying customer. If no further action is taken hereafter, we block the services the customer has ordered in the corresponding account.

When no action has been taken after multiple warnings, we will automatically employ a debt collection agency and the services the customer has ordered will be cancelled by the end of the contract period.
